Wednesday Blogging Challenge: New Hobby

Today’s Weekly Blogging Challenge is to share a new hobby that you’re trying or that you wish to try. Over the years I’ve had so many new hobbies, from raising chickens to creating my own room and toilet sprays (I just tried that last week!) that I could write about this topic for days on end. Since I work from home, I can engage in just about any cheap hobby I like, and they usually come in handy while homeschooling, too.

My favorite hobby has to be making stickers for my journal and planner. It’s gotten to the point where I don’t even like stickers from the store as much anymore (although I do still find ones I like on Etsy!). This week I made some Witcher stickers, for example.

Creating costumes and drawing with my teenager (we like to issue weird challenges, like “incorporate stitching into a fandom,” which resulted in a creepy Care Bear and a stuffed plush of Winston from Ghostbusters last night) are some of my other favorite hobbies. I also like making things in my new air fryer that my parents bought us for Christmas, playing board games with my family, going to concerts, trying out new indie perfume oils (my favorites are Sugar & Spite, Fortune Cookie Soap, Solstice Scents, Hexxenacht and Has of Gloi) and, of course, reading.

Some new hobbies I hope to try in 2020 are wine and cheese tasting with my husband, camping and traveling (which, to be fair, we’ve done off and on), and doing more projects around our house. This year we have some big goals in that department that are both intimidating and exciting.

How about you? What are your current hobbies or new ones you hope to try in 2020?

  1. I got into raising monarch butterflies every year because I was a homeschooling mom… my kid’s in college now, but I still raise butterflies! You do a LOT more than I ever did, it’s great and helps a kid realize that learning isn’t just about memorizing dates. Good luck with your hopes for this year. Wine tasting (and cheese) sound amazing…

  2. I had no idea that anyone made their own stickers. That is such a cool hobby. Do you have any photos of your work online anywhere?

    My post.

    1. I don’t! But it’s really easy, and my method is so much lazier than what many people do: I just put images I want in a word document, then print on shipping labels! Ha! I’ve even made stickers of my book covers (just for use in my journal).

  3. Okay, suddenly I need some Witcher stickers. ❤

I'm not a big fan of wine, but I think that if I took the time to learn what I liked (and how to pair it with my favorite food – cheese!) it might be a different story. Have fun with these.

    My post!

    1. I already used all of my Witcher stickers and need more! Ha!

I didn’t like wine at all, save for a bit of white, and then I lived in Spain to teach while I was in college and came home loving reds. I still haven’t been to a winery yet, though!

      1. You can never have enough Jaskier. 🙂

I was the same way with coffee, but over the years, I’ve come to like it. Oooh, Napa Valley in California is full of them and is supposed to be beautiful country, too.

    1. I’d have to post pics of my planner/journal to show them, which I’d rather not do, but I just put what I want in word files and print them on shipping labels–easy peasy!

  4. Interesting. I have lots of coworkers who use stickers for their planners and I haven’t heard of making your own, what do you use to make them?
My WWBC hobby post is on gaming; definitely stepping it up to hobby level this year (from occasional dalliance)

    1. People use all kinds of digital editing and art programs but I’m not that skilled! I just paste what I like in Word files and print them on shipping labels. 😉

    1. Oh I’m super lazy about it! I just paste the images I want in a Word file and print them on shipping labels. 😉 I do it with photos I take, too!

  5. We got an air fryer and had no idea what to do with it, so we put our teenager in charge. Now he’s a master and on the odd occasion we have nothing for dinner we can usually drag something out of the freezer and he can magic us some food. It seems like an awesome beast if you work out how to use it.
